There's No Place Like Holmes!

Holmes County is a small rural county rich in natural beauty, history, pristine nature based activities and known for its southern hospitality. Holmes County is also a business friendly community that welcomes new and expanding businesses to the area.

We have HISTORY & CULTURE

The Northwest Florida Championship Rodeo, which dates back all the way to the 1940s, is held the first weekend in October and attracts approximately 20,000 people each year. The Bonifay Kiwanis Club sponsors this three-night, two-day event of parades, festivals, cowboys, cowgirls and hundreds of horses.

We have ADVENTURE

No area in the South affords finer facilities for boating, swimming, fishing and water sports of all kinds than the beautiful lakes and streams of Holmes County and nearby resorts on the Gulf of Mexico. The area is a paradise for hunters, too, with plentiful deer, wild turkey, ducks and small game.

Relax and drop a line on our rivers and lakes. Lake Victor, Commander Lakes and the Choctawhatchee River are popular fresh water fishing spots, along with many other nearby watering holes.

Take a swing at Dogwood Lakes Golf Club located just 7 miles north of Bonifay. Several well-stocked lakes, tennis courts and an 18-hole, professional size golf course provides fun, relaxation and pleasure.

We have NATURAL BEAUTY

Jump into the clear waters of our local natural springs and cool off on a hot summer's day. Ponce De Leon Springs State Park & Recreation Area is a 433-acre facility with two main boils that produce 14 million gallons of crystal clear water daily at a year round temperature of 68 degrees F.

Vortex Spring Diving Resort, near Ponce De Leon, offers swimming, scuba diving, camping, go-kart rides and canoeing. The spring produces 28 million gallons of crystal-clear water daily at a year-round temperature of 68 degrees F. Depths in the spring basin range from about 50 feet for a cavern dive and up to 115 feet for a cave dive. This 480-acre resort offers recreational and professional dive training opportunities. It has diving classes for every scuba level, including those with special needs. The spring pool has a swimming area that slopes gently from shallow to deeper water and includes a diving board, two high jumping platforms, a "zip line," 2 slides, and an old-fashioned rope swing.
